The Half Way Home

Philemon run the only half-way home in Kenya, accommodating up to ten residents on a six month program. To date, over seventy released prisoners have been reconciled to their families and communities after passing through the Home. The Home is split into male and female quarters. It houses 4 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, an office and a prayer room / common area.

Productive lives

Residents learn skills such as carpentry, metalwork and tailoring in the social enterprise businesses of Philemon. Philemon practically assists residents to go on and find employment, for example, by helping residents to obtain ID cards. Residents are also encouraged to participate in secondments, such as to the National Probation Service.

Collegiate environment

The aim is that after a six-month stay, each resident will be equipped and ready to re-enter Kenyan society. Life at the Home is collegial and friendly and we are grateful to God for the historic good spirit amongst the residents and with neighbours.

Micro-Enterprise and Aftercare

Philemon endeavours to keep in close touch with ex-residents and, where possible, provides start-up loans and grants for residents to set-up small businesses upon leaving the home.

We thank God for the opportunities ex-prisoners receive at Philemon and hope that through friendship and learning each one will grow to know the fullness of life offered by Jesus.
